WORDS : Don John

We are excited to be celebrating the diverse community of Southampton this October as part of Black History Month. As part of the line up to celebrate this community, we are putting on a diverse programme; from shows to workshops, we are excited to be a part of this.

Launching tomorrow Thu 30 Sep, Our resident partner, Our Version Media®, will be hosting the launch of Black History Month South’s live stream alongside Lou Taylor and Olu Rowe at MAST! Furthermore, we are very excited to welcome keynote speaker, Shelina Permalloo (2012 MasterChef winner).

On Sun 3 Oct, we welcome the powerhouse voice of Broadway and West End starlet, Marisha Wallace. For one night only, the star of Dreamgirls, Waitress and Hairspray performs a stunning mix of jazz, soul and musical favourites.

For those who are wanting something later in the month, join use on Thu 21 Oct as we welcome RUSH – A Joyous Jamaican Journey. Enjoy a joyous evening of Reggae, ska, calypso, gospel and more, played live by the JA Reggae Band and hear how Jamaican music has taken the world by storm. Meet some of those who are a part of the Windrush generation and discuss their history.

Excitingly, Our Version Media® are putting on their “Proud To Be” Black Stories Screening” on Mon 25 Oct. The event is created by Southampton black communities and showcases their made-by-mobile stories.
