Ways to contribute
SUPPORT THE SOUTH’S BLACK BRITISH HERITAGE

Photos & Pictures
Contribute photographs from your personal collections that capture important events, historical landmarks, or everyday life in a specific time and place. These could include family photos, community gatherings, street scenes, or notable buildings. Physical copies can be valuable and the Black Archives South team take expert care in digitising any of your items

Video Footage
Any video recordings you may have made during historical events, such as protests, celebrations, or public speeches. Additionally, home videos or documentaries that highlight local culture, traditions, or significant moments in history are valuable additions to the archive. We would love to share and unearth never-before-seen footage to highlight the significance of Black people in the South.

Local Stories
Share local stories and memories related to significant historical events or moments in the lives of people in the South. These stories can provide unique perspectives and insights into the local context and contribute to a richer understanding of historical events. They can be captured through written narratives, oral interviews, or video recordings.

Personal Experiences
Contribute firsthand accounts of historical events they witnessed or participated in. These can be in the form of written testimonies, audio recordings, or video interviews. We encourage contributors to share details, emotions, and any relevant documentation related to their experiences to bring clarity and truth to an often obscured, inaccurate or derogatory historical narrative.

Newspapers & magazine clippings
Collecting and digitising newspaper clippings can provide valuable historical context to the Black Archives South project. We are looking for articles, headlines, or entire newspapers related to significant events or stories from local communities. These clippings can offer insights into the prevailing narratives and perspectives of the time and long forgotten moments of local history.

Physical artifacts for exhibitions
In addition to photographs, videos, stories, and newspaper clippings, individuals can contribute physical artifacts that hold historical significance. These artifacts could include objects, documents, clothing, tools, artwork, or any other tangible items that offer insights into a particular time period, event, or culture. We would ensure that the artifacts are properly cared for, fully credited with your ownership, with recognition and your historical context is preserved. By involving the community in sharing and donating these items, The Black Archives Souths can create engaging and educational exhibitions that bring history to life for future generations.
